Richard Mille and Rafael Nadal have reached a new milestone in the world of luxury watchmaking with the launch of the RM 35-03 Automatic Rafael Nadal. This watch, merging the excellence of tennis and horological craftsmanship, is the fourth generation of the renowned "baby Nadal" collection, inspired by the tourbillons worn by Nadal during his tennis triumphs.
The most revolutionary feature of this watch is its "butterfly rotor," a mechanical innovation that promises to transform the art of watchmaking. This butterfly rotor, the result of three years of development, represents a turning point in movement winding technology. Unlike the RM 35-02, which featured a variable geometry rotor, the RM 35-03 allows users to directly influence the rotor's geometry, adapting the movement's winding speed based on lifestyle and activity level.
The butterfly rotor consists of two arms made of grade 5 titanium, each fitted with heavy metal weight segments. These weights can be activated by a dedicated pusher and a separate gear train. In the initial position, the weights move the center of gravity outward, converting every wrist movement into torque for winding the barrel. By pressing the pusher at 7 o'clock, the weights expand to a 180° angle, balancing the rotor and suspending the winding process.
The RM 35-03 features an athletic and ergonomic design, available in three captivating versions: blue and white Quartz TPT®, Carbone TPT®, and white Quartz TPT® and Carbone TPT® with cut-outs inspired by the RM 27-04 Tourbillon. The fully skeletonized movement is visible from both sides, thanks to the sapphire crystals on the front and back. The baseplate and bridges, crafted from grade 5 titanium with a grey electroplasma and PVD treatment, emphasize the watch's bold aesthetics.
With the revolutionary "butterfly rotor," wearers can now experience their timepiece as an extension of their body, an embodiment of precision, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence.
