Omega and Swatch have collaborated to recreate the iconic Speedmaster Professional, the first watch on the Moon. The Swatch company uses its Bioceramic material to produce the new watch.
Moonwatch enthusiasts and collectors would surely appreciate the references in the new Speedmaster MoonSwatch collection. For example, the Moon version contains 5% stainless steel powder in its Bioceramic mix, a brilliant nod to the stainless steel watches that made it to the Moon in 1969.
The collection contains eleven pieces named after a planet or celestial body—Earth, Moon, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Venus, Uranus, Neptune, and Mercury. Each model costs $260 and would only be available for purchase from Swatch stores on March 26.
The collaboration between Swatch and Omega is such a significant moment in the watch industry. Watch brands collaborating isn't a very usual event, but with the MoonSwatch Collection, perhaps there might be more of such to come.
It's hard not to be impressed by the Omega x Swatch collaboration outcome. Swatch's tribute to the classic Speedmaster Moonwatch is not only impressive but entertaining as well. In addition, the different color variants and astrology-influenced names give Omega and Swatch users something to have fun with.
