Ollech & Wajs has introduced the OW 8001 ‘Tundra’, a new iteration of its popular OW 8001 model. Inspired by the rugged landscapes of the Norwegian tundra, this watch combines a brutalist design with high-performance specifications. Building on the success of the original OW 8001, the ‘Tundra’ features a moss green fumé dial, a fixed bezel with architectural-inspired markers, and a robust 300m water resistance rating.

The 39.5mm stainless steel case retains the integrated bracelet and tonneau shape of the original OW 8001, but the ‘Tundra’ introduces a moss green fumé dial. This dial shifts from light green at the centre to almost black at the edges, evoking the mossy terrain of the Norwegian tundra.

The hour markers and hands maintain the blocky, geometric style of the original, but the bezel has been redesigned. Instead of the previous 60-minute scale, the ‘Tundra’ features laser-etched markers at 1-minute and 5-minute intervals, giving it a more structural and architectural look. The case measures 12.7mm thick and is crafted from brushed 316L stainless steel. Despite its relatively compact size, the watch boasts a 300m water resistance rating, making it a capable dive watch. The fixed bezel and screw-down crown enhance its durability, while the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment ensures clarity in various lighting conditions.

The integrated bracelet is brushed to match the case, with a sturdy milled clasp that includes a double pusher release system for added security. The bracelet is designed for comfort and stability, making it suitable for both everyday wear and more demanding environments.

Inside the ‘Tundra’ is the OW Soprod Newton Precision P092, a COSC-certified automatic movement. This bespoke calibre operates at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers a 44-hour power reserve. It features a date function with semi-instantaneous changes and quick adjustment via the crown, as well as a stop-seconds mechanism for precise time setting.

The movement has been independently tested for durability and reliability at Laboratoire Dubois in Switzerland, earning it a Chronofiable® certification in addition to its COSC certification. The solid caseback protects the movement while featuring an engraved rotor with “Zurich 1956,” a nod to the brand’s heritage.
