Mühle Glashütte has once again proven its innovative spirit by launching the Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition—a limited-run timepiece that redefines the brand’s Sportivo line. Known for its robust tool-watch heritage, MG now embraces a new design direction with this exclusive chronograph, limited to 200 pieces and priced at €4,300 EUR.
The Sportivo Power Chronograph stands out with its imposing 42.5mm stainless steel case, which has been sleekly black PVD coated for a modern, industrial aesthetic. The case’s 15.5mm height and 50.3mm lug-to-lug measurement create a strong wrist presence, while the squared lug box—a signature design element for the Sportivo collection—hints at its skin diver lineage. Crown guards and chronograph pushers form a polished arc around the crown, offering a pleasing contrast to the matte finish of the case and complementing the ceramic inlay of the bidirectional bezel. With 300m water resistance and a sapphire crystal, this model is engineered to perform under demanding conditions, and it is paired with a water-resistant black leather strap featuring red contrast stitching.
Departing from the lighter blue and grey dials of its siblings, this edition adopts a bold black and red color scheme. The finely textured matte-black dial is accented by enormous Super-LumiNova-filled hands and applied markers that ensure high legibility even from a distance. A distinctive red chapter ring encircles the dial, while red accents on the central chronograph seconds hand and the 30-minute totalizer at 12 o’clock add a dynamic touch. Unique raised labels at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions and carefully executed radial grooving on the registers create an engaging balance with the brand logo, while a neatly integrated power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock completes the layout.
At its core, the watch is powered by the new automatic MU 9244 movement—a heavily modified variant based on the MU 9413, which itself is derived from the Swiss Sellita SW500. Mühle Glashütte’s in-house modifications include a reworked mainspring barrel, an updated baseplate, and the integration of the brand’s patented woodpecker regulator, along with a 19-piece power reserve module. Regulated to 0/+8 seconds per day, this movement delivers an impressive 62-hour power reserve at 28,800 vibrations per hour, showcasing the technical prowess that MG is renowned for.
While the black and red color scheme may not appeal to every taste, the meticulous balance of the dial and the impressive mechanical enhancements make the Sportivo Power Chronograph First Edition a standout model. Its robust design, combined with sophisticated movement modifications, offers both performance and style for those seeking a distinctive sports watch with serious credentials.
