In line with the Lunar New Year, IWC Schaffhausen has introduced a unique edition of their classic watch, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake. This special model encapsulates the festive spirit with a 37mm stainless steel case and an eye-catching burgundy dial. This particular shade, often associated with the festivities in China, sets the stage for the detailed golden moon phase display located at 12 o'clock.

This watch is not only about its striking appearance; the moon phase complication is a marvel of precision engineering. It deviates by just a single day every 122 years, ensuring almost perfect accuracy in tracking the lunar cycle. The display, set against a burgundy backdrop, features a golden moon and stars which complement the gold-plated hands and hour markers.

At the heart of this timepiece is the IWC-manufactured 32800 caliber. This automatic movement is known for its robustness and efficiency, boasting a power reserve of five days. Adding a touch of celebratory flair, the watch’s oscillating weight is crafted from solid 18-carat 5N gold, meticulously shaped into a snake, symbolising renewal and longevity.

The watch comes equipped with two calfskin straps, in black and burgundy, each fitted with a butterfly clasp. The inclusion of a quick-change system allows the wearer to switch straps effortlessly, adapting the watch for different looks or occasions.

Limited to just 180 pieces, the Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake is a collector’s delight, blending traditional craftsmanship with subtle modernity. Priced at EUR 20,100 including taxes, and USD 19,100 excluding taxes, this model is available for a select few, celebrating an iconic milestone in watchmaking with a nod to the zodiac tradition.
