In line with the Chinese New Year celebrations, Christopher Ward has launched the new The Twelve Snake x seconde/seconde/. This model marks the Year of the Snake and is designed in collaboration with Romaric from seconde/seconde/. Drawing inspiration from the classic mobile game Snake, the watch is intended to evoke memories of simpler times when mobile phones featured only basic games.
The Twelve Snake incorporates a 40mm stainless steel case with a brushed, sandblasted and polished finish. The dial is presented in Venom Green and utilises a 3D textured design reminiscent of early LCD screens. The layout features a pixelated representation of a snake that appears to take a bite out of the brand’s twin-flags logo—a detail that references the ‘food’ element from the Snake game. Additionally, a pair of red bite marks at the 6 o’clock position symbolise the snake’s fangs, reinforcing the theme.
A distinctive aspect of the design is the inclusion of a false date window positioned at 7:30. This area, referred to as the "bonus bites" section, displays six small insect icons at varying times throughout the month. On the case back, an inscription reading ‘CHEERS TO THE SNAKE YEAR(S)’ is accompanied by a graphic of a snake, adding further thematic detail. The design’s simplicity is balanced by these playful elements, which tie the concept together without detracting from its overall functionality.
Powering the watch is the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. This Swiss-made movement features 26 jewels, operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), and offers a 38-hour power reserve. The watch includes standard functions for hours, minutes, and seconds, along with a date calendar. An anti-shock system is built into the movement to maintain accuracy under daily conditions. The case measures 40mm in diameter with a thickness of 9.95mm, and the lug-to-lug distance is 44.5mm. The watch is rated for water resistance up to 100 metres and comes with an embossed screw-down crown.
The Twelve Snake is available with either a stainless steel bracelet or a rubber strap offered in black or Venom Green. The steel bracelet model is priced at £1,050, while the rubber strap version is available for £850. Customers have the option to add an engraving at no additional cost and can choose a bracelet resize service for £10. Pre-orders are open from 29 January 2025 until 12 February 2025, aligning with the Lunar New Year festival period.
The Twelve Snake is a limited-edition timepiece that merges digital nostalgia with the traditions of the Chinese Zodiac. Its design, which pays tribute to the simplicity of the Snake game and the Year of the Snake, is supported by reliable Swiss-made mechanics. With its distinctive Venom Green dial and themed details, this watch offers a fresh take on a classic concept, making it a notable addition for those marking the occasion.
